Alternative Fuel Vehicles (Electric Vehicles)

 

Because of the extra weight of the electric batteries, a 3.5-ton vehicle would exceed the m.g.v.w. of 3.5t on a category B Driving licence. Then a Category C1 is needed.

 

A change in the legislation in 2018 allows category B licence to drive AFVs (Electric vehicles) from 3.5 tonnes to 4.25 tones, providing they complete five hours of AFV training with a registered trainer from either:

 Or the

National Register of LGV Instructors register.
